AION 2 servers: regions, factions and transfers

The global AION 2 runs servers in four regions: North America, South America, Europe and Japan. Inside each region every server belongs to one faction, Elyos or Asmodian, and your membership and several paid items stay on the server where you use them. NC has not published the full list of server names.

The four regions

  • North America
  • South America
  • Europe
  • Japan

There is no Oceania, Southeast Asia or Middle East region in the list, so players there who are not in a restricted country (see below) will be connecting to one of these four. Steam and PURPLE players use the same servers; NC’s Founder’s Pack notice puts it as “All platforms share the same servers”. Choosing between the two launchers is covered on Steam or PURPLE.

One faction per server

“Elyos and Asmodian servers are separate, but our factions meet in The Abyss for action-packed PvP battles.”

(From NC notice: Early Access: How It Will Work)

So picking a server is also picking a side, and the servers you can choose from depend on the faction you want. Friends who want to share a server therefore need to pick the same faction. Elyos or Asmodian covers what else the choice changes, and the PvP page covers the Abyss, where the two sides meet.

Two waves of servers

The server list opens in two parts. On 30 September a first wave, the Early Access servers, opens to Founder’s Pack owners. On 5 October a second wave, the Launch servers, opens, and new players can choose either kind as long as an Early Access server still has room. The practical difference is timing: an Early Access server has five days of head start, and during those days its Abyss matches only against other Early Access servers. The Early Access page has the details.

Server names

No official list of launch servers exists yet. The only global server names NC has published are two pairs added during the Launch Scale Test, and they show how servers come in Elyos and Asmodian pairs within a region:

RegionElyosAsmodian
EUVaizelTriniel
EUKaisinelLumiel

These were test servers, and every character on them was wiped at the end of the test. Do not assume the same names, or the same number of servers, on launch day.

What stays on your server

ThingWhere it applies
Special Quai MembershipEvery character on the server it was bought for, and none on other servers
Outfits and pet from a Founder's PackEvery character on the server where you claim them
Founder's Pack weapon skinOne class, on one server
Server MarketTrades only with players on your own server
Friends and dungeon partiesNot tied: you can group and add friends across servers

The membership is the one that costs money every month, so a second character on another server does not share it; membership cost goes through the rest. The Cross-Server Market, which would let you trade with the whole region, does not open at launch.

Server transfers

“We understand the importance of playing together and are committed to enabling the AION 2 Server Transfer Service. Following Early Access and Launch, our teams will evaluate server occupancy levels with the goals of alleviating congestion and streamlining related experiences.”

“In the meantime, even if you and your friends start on different servers, you can always party up for dungeons and add each other as friends.”

(From NC notice: Early Access: How It Will Work)

That is a promise without a date or a price. Plan as if the server you start on is the one you keep.

Countries that cannot play the global version

NC’s support FAQ lists 18 countries and territories where it neither allows play nor accepts payment:

  • China
  • Vietnam
  • Cuba
  • Syria
  • Hong Kong
  • Republic of Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Macau
  • Russian Federation
  • Belarus
  • Belgium
  • Netherlands
  • Curacao
  • Bonaire
  • Saint Maarten
  • Aruba
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia

Two entries surprise people. Russian is one of the eight languages the game ships with, yet Russia is on the list. Korea and Taiwan are on it too; both already have their own AION 2 service, separate from this one; the Taiwan and Korea page explains how it differs. When the servers are busy or down, server status and queues says where NC posts it.
