AION 2 Gladiator guide

The Gladiator is AION 2’s greatsword fighter: a melee damage class that can also tank when the group has no Templar. It is the one class the Korean party finder files as both tank and damage, and its kit is built around knocking enemies down and hitting them while they are on the ground.

Tank or damage: which slot a Gladiator takes

In the Korean version NC sums the class up as high attack and high defence at once. It mostly plays as melee damage, but its health and defence are good enough for it to stand in as a second tank. In a group with a Templar, the Templar holds the boss and the Gladiator takes a damage slot; without one, the Gladiator holds it instead.

One detail matters when both tanks are in the same group. Each has a passive that raises the whole party’s damage after a successful block, and the Korean skill list says the two do not stack. The Gladiator’s strength in that pairing is its own damage and its life steal, not a second copy of the buff.

What the Gladiator’s skills do in the Korean version

Two ways in
A leap onto the target, and a charge after an emergency dodge that can knock it down.
Down, then punish
A strike that knocks the target down, then two follow-ups that only work on a target already on the ground: a downward slam and a lift into the air. Against bosses that cannot be knocked down, the slam can light up by chance instead.
Counter on block
Blocking an attack triggers a sweep that can root the enemies around you.
Life steal
A passive heals you on hits and gives an instant heal when you fall below half health; a stigma sword drains life as it cuts.
An escape hatch
A stigma that makes you immune to damage and crowd control for three seconds.
For PvP
A thrown blade that lowers the target’s defence and the healing it receives.

Stigma skills are the ones you choose to equip on top of the fixed kit. Korea’s first big update, Chapter 1, raised the number you can equip from five to six; how many the global version starts with has not been announced.

The first levels: waiting for a knockdown

The follow-ups are where much of the early damage sits, and they need a target on the ground. At low level, before cooldowns come down, that leaves gaps. A player in the Launch Scale Test, where characters stopped at level 37, described it like this:

“I know for gladiators there’s two skills that require knockdowns to work…but if you don’t land a knockdown or your skill that does a knockdown is on cooldown, you just end up sitting there lol”

(From r/Aion2 thread: first impressions from the Launch Scale Test)

The fix is timing rather than gear: open with the knockdown when the follow-ups are ready, not the moment a fight starts. Guide makers on the Korean servers name the Gladiator among the easier classes to pick up once that rhythm clicks.

What it does well

  • Holds up without a healer, thanks to life steal and the three-second immunity.
  • Fits two group slots, so it has two ways into a party.
  • Chains crowd control in PvP: knockdown, then air-bind.

Where it falls short

  • Holds a boss less firmly than a Templar: its kit has no taunt, and the Templar has threat passives it lacks.
  • Brings no party shield; the Templar has one, and can take part of the party’s damage on itself.
  • Early fights stall when the knockdown is on cooldown.

Where the Gladiator ranks, and what to read next

Korean-server rankings disagree about the Gladiator a great deal: it posts some of the best numbers on a training dummy and far more modest ones in real dungeons. The class tier list puts those lists side by side. If you want pure melee damage without the tank option, the Assassin is the other choice; if a first character is the question, start from the best class for new players. And if you are buying the Deluxe or Ultimate pack, its weapon skin binds to one class, so claim it on the Gladiator only once you are sure; the Founder’s Pack comparison has the binding rules.
