AION 2 PvP and the Abyss
PvP in AION 2 is faction against faction. Elyos and Asmodians live on separate servers and meet in the Abyss, and NC’s PvP showcase covered Rifts and the Arena as well. Which servers you meet is decided by matchmaking: Early Access servers only face each other, and after launch servers are paired by how far along they are.
Who you fight on the global servers
“During Early Access, Abyss matchmaking occurs between Early Access servers only. After launch, we will match servers based on how far along and how strong each server is, so players are matched against servers at a similar stage in the game.”
In other words, NC means newer servers to meet servers at a similar stage rather than ones with a five-day head start. Your own faction is fixed by your server; how to choose it is on Elyos or Asmodian, and how regions and servers are laid out is on regions and servers.
The PvP modes, as the Korean version runs them
NC’s own announcement of its global PvP showcase named Elyos against Asmodians, the Abyss, Rifts and the Arena. The rules below come from the Korean guide; numbers can differ on global.
| Mode | Format | Korean-version rules |
|---|---|---|
| Open world | Faction against faction | Most fields allow attacks on the other faction, but characters start in PvE mode. Switching to PvP mode locks it for 70 minutes, and attacking the other faction forces PvP mode for 10. |
| The Abyss | Faction against faction, large scale | Open to both factions, with a cap on how many can be inside and a weekly time allowance that items can extend. Abyss points come from monsters and from killing enemy players, and you lose some when you die. |
| Space-Time Rifts | Faction against faction, in enemy land | Timed portals into the other faction's territory. See the rifts page. Rifts, and why there is no global timer. |
| Arena | 1 vs 1 or 5 vs 5, matched | Ranked: wins earn points, losses cost them, and season rewards follow the ranking. Pays Abyss points. |
| Battlegrounds | Matched teams, solo or 5-player queue | Stats are equalised. Open during two windows a day, with rewards for up to three wins a week. One mode is 10 against 10, capture the flag. |
| Duels | 1 vs 1, same faction | Friendly fights on request, with no reward and no penalty. |
Inside the Abyss (Korean version)
The Abyss is split into layers and is built around a few recurring fights. Twice a week, killing monsters charges up the artifacts until a dimensional core appears; the faction that lands the final blow on the core holds that artifact until the next battle, plus access to the Abyss corridor, a timed area for farming points. Elite bosses also appear in the Abyss on a schedule. Abyss points buy items from an exchange shop, and a ranking turns your season total into a rank and rewards. Points earned inside the Abyss have weekly and season caps; after the cap, ranking points only come from PvP.
A separate twice-weekly event, the Abyss rift zone, pits the factions against each other over bosses for level 45 characters and up, and newer Korean updates added an Abyss layer only low-power characters may enter.
Short answers
- Can I avoid PvP while leveling?
- In the Korean version, mostly: you start in PvE mode, and only PvP mode lets you fight the other faction. If a nearby party member switches PvP mode on, though, everyone in the party within range is switched for 10 minutes. The Abyss and rifts are where PvP is the point.
- Does membership help in PvP?
- The Korean membership doubles Abyss time. The global membership notice lists no Abyss perk; its benefits are on membership cost.
- Is there a PvP stat board?
- In Korea, one of the Daevanion growth boards, opening at level 45, raises PvP damage and PvP damage resistance. Which boards global keeps is not confirmed.
- Which class is best for PvP?
- Nothing official ranks them; the class tier list covers how the classes compare.
