AION 2 best class for a first character
No class is the best in every way, but for a first character the choice is simpler than it looks: take the Cleric or Templar if you want groups to need you, the Gladiator or Ranger if you want a forgiving start, and leave the Assassin and Sorcerer until you are ready for a class that asks more of you. Everything below is about the eight classes on NC’s global site; the ninth class from the Korean version is not on that list.
| If you want | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Groups asking for you | Cleric or Templar | The only pure healer and the only pure tank in the Korean party finder, the two roles a group is built around. |
| Two ways into a group | Gladiator or Chanter | Each is listed under two roles: Gladiator as tank or damage, Chanter as healer or damage. |
| A forgiving first character | Templar, Gladiator or Ranger | Named among the easiest classes to play by guide makers on the Korean servers. |
| Damage from a safe distance | Ranger or Spiritmaster | Both fight at range and neither has to stand behind a boss. The Ranger moves more; the Spiritmaster has spirits to lean on. |
| Ambushes and burst | Assassin | Stealth, poison and attacks from behind. It needs a tank holding the boss and takes practice to play well. |
| The biggest spells | Sorcerer | Fire and frost built for damage in short windows, with low defence and health by design. |
Does the class matter for leveling alone?
Less than you might fear. Launch Scale Test players found most quests take place in solo instances, and players on the Korean servers describe the solo side of the game, from leveling to daily dungeons, as easy enough for every class. Where classes differ is how fast they get through it and how much trouble they get into:
- The Gladiator heals itself through life steal, which covers a lot of mistakes.
- The Spiritmaster brings its own help: in the Korean skill list its wind spirit heals it and its earth spirit draws enemies away.
- The Ranger kills from range and can slow or trap what gets close; guide makers call it strong for early farming.
- The Cleric has the lowest damage of the eight, so solo farming is slower, though it is perfectly workable.
If most of your first weeks will be quests and open-world play, any class will get you there; the leveling guide covers the route itself.
Easy or demanding
NC publishes no difficulty ratings, so this comes from English-language guide makers who play on the Korean servers. Their lists of the easiest classes name the Gladiator, the Ranger and the Templar, with the Spiritmaster and Chanter also on them. The Templar in particular is described as forgiving: a tank’s mistakes are easier to recover from than a damage dealer’s.
At the other end are two classes. The Sorcerer is one: NC’s own Korean guide warns that its defence and health are low, one guide maker ranks it among the two hardest classes to play well, and others describe a rotation of cooldowns that feed into each other. The Assassin is the other: much of its damage depends on hitting a boss from behind, so it needs someone else holding the boss, and guide makers call it the least sturdy melee class. Both can be played from day one; they simply take longer to play well.
Tanks and healers get into groups faster
The Korean party finder asks which roles you are recruiting, and each class sits under one or two of them. A group dungeon takes up to five players, and Korean-server groups usually run one tank and one healer. Six classes can fill a damage slot; only two can tank and two can heal. The effect on a queue is easy to picture, and a player from the Taiwanese service put it bluntly:
“In TW we could never find cleric and wait very long before we can enter the dungeons.”
(From r/Aion2 thread: Clearing some class balance misconceptions)
The flip side is responsibility. A tank or healer who makes a mistake ends the run for everyone, while a damage dealer is judged on damage. If you want the short queue without being the only one who can save a group, the Gladiator and Chanter each fit two roles. Group content itself is on the dungeons page.
Claim the weapon skin last
The Deluxe and Ultimate Founder’s Packs include a weapon skin, Eternal Sun, and it locks to one class on one server when you claim it. The title, wings and supply chest lock to one character. NC’s support pages say unclaimed pack items can still be claimed after Early Access ends, so nothing is lost by waiting until you are sure. The Steam store page does not mention the binding, and when it came to light shortly before Early Access, one player summed up what it means:
“Guess i really gotta be careful with which class I choose huh...still undecided between ranger or assassin”
(From r/Aion2 thread: Founder's Pack items are character bound)

Every binding rule and what each pack contains is on the Founder’s Pack comparison, and since some items bind to a server, regions and servers is worth reading first.
A quick way to decide
- Choose the role first. Tank, healer or damage decides more about your evenings than anything else.
- Then melee or ranged. Melee classes have to reach the target and stay on it; ranged classes keep their distance.
- Watch the class trailer. Each class page has NC’s own 57-second video. How a class looks and sounds matters over hundreds of hours.
- Check the rankings last. The tier list page compares what Korean-server lists say, and they move with every patch, so treat them as a tiebreaker.
Still between two? Put them side by side on the class table, filtered by the role you chose.
