AION 2 Guide

AION 2 ping from Oceania and Asia: which server, which class

Global AION 2 has no Oceania or Southeast Asia region, so players there connect to Japan, the nearest of the four. From Australia, players report roughly 110 ms, and at that ping fast melee classes lose more than casters and healers do.

The nearest region to you

The four regions are North America, South America, Europe and Japan. This is the nearest one by distance, not a promise of a particular ping; your provider’s route decides the number.

Players in Australia report about 110 ms to the Japan servers, from Melbourne and Brisbane alike, including during the Launch Scale Test weekend. One player in Brisbane:

“Going JPN when global launches - we get ~110ms to Tokyo without a ping reducer”

Why not the Taiwanese version?

Some Australians already play the Taiwanese service, and players report about 150 ms to it, so Japan is the closer of the two for most. Taiwan’s version has also been running for close to a year, and players worry a newcomer there starts far behind. On the global version, launch-server players start together on 5 October, while Early Access characters are five days ahead. Korea and Taiwan are on the global version’s restricted list, so players there cannot join the global servers at all; the Taiwan and Korea page sets out how they differ.

Which classes handle 100 to 150 ms

NC has published no numbers on this. Here is what players with high ping report, grouped roughly, with the class tier list for how rankings treat each class:

Cope best
Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric. Players single these three out. The Sorcerer's damage is paced by the global cooldown rather than by fast inputs; much of the Spiritmaster's damage comes from its summoned spirit, which does not care about your connection; a Cleric healing a party barely notices. One player adds that a Cleric played for damage wants a low ping.
Mixed reports
Ranger, Chanter, Templar. The Ranger gets suggested for high ping, with little detail on why. The Chanter is recommended by one player and ranked below the casters by another. On the Templar players contradict each other: one says ping does not touch it, another that its damage depends on it quite a bit.
Suffer most
Gladiator, Assassin. Fast-rotation melee is what players tell high-ping players to avoid, and the Gladiator is the class named when they put a number on the loss. One Korean ranking marks both down for ping as well.

How big the loss is, nobody agrees. Players say recent changes made high ping hurt less than it used to, and they split on how much less. Asked about 150 ms:

“Will lose overall maybe 10% dps. Spirit master is probably most forgiving.”

Another player disagrees:

“it only ‘fixed’ for about less than 100ms if ur at mid 100’s its still 20% dps loss at the top end for classes like gladiator”

The higher figure is about top-end damage on a class like the Gladiator, not about whether you can play it. If you want a melee class anyway, pick it; if you are torn between two, ping is a fair tie-breaker. Best class for new players weighs the other factors, and all 8 classes explains what each one does.

Before you commit to a server

Your character, membership and several Founder’s Pack items stay on the server where you start, and server transfers are promised but not yet available. So try the Japan region in a short session before you claim the pack’s outfits, pet and membership, which stay on one server, and agree the region with friends first: dungeon party matching works only inside one region. Regions and servers has the rest.
